The Chateau Laguiole Sakura is a limited editions of 2013 pieces only. 2013 as the 20th anniversary of Chateau Laguiole, celebrated in Japan, during the 14th World Best Sommelier competition held in Tokyo. The Cherry Sakura coming from Japan was a natural choice therefore to celebrate Chateau Laguiole.
The logo of this famous contest is stamped, engraved on the lever: it symbolizes a glass of wine and cherry. One of the bolsters is engraved with the dates 1993-2013 to immortalize this anniversary. Its black and red leather pouch is customized as well for the occasion.
Sakura is a very high symbol in the Japanese culture and Buddhism in general about the ephemeral nature of life. This model design is based on the Grand Cru series as a symbol to reinforce its structure by contrast with the Sakura symbolism. The Grand Cru series of Chateau Laguiole were created by transforming the Classics series into a stylish and modern design, with beveled brass at both endings of the handle. Thus, those wider beveled brasses made them even more durable openers, for heavy duty use.
